Is Technology the Future of Driving?

In a recent survey carried out by Auto Trader and Digital Radio UK, a large number of motorists where asked what they believed the future of driving would bring. The answers largely surrounded the increase in technology capabilities of their vehicles, here are just a few of the findings:

Hassle Free Driving

Surprisingly, the majority of motorists don’t seem to like driving very much with the majority of the answers suggesting ‘advancements’ that remove the human element of driving. So what are the next big things for driving according to motorists?

  • 40% of drivers believe that self-parking capabilities will be the next big thing
  • 35% see the future of driving being voice commands instead of physical actions
  • 41% think that DAB radios as standard will be the next leap forward
  • 62% of people believed that windows that doubled as touchscreens would be the next major leap
  • 42% said that see self-driving cars will be a common sight in the next 10 years
  • 47% believe that there will be far more electric vehicles in the future
  • 62% think that cars will be able to communicate with each other in order to reduce the amount of collisions

While the figures really speak for themselves, it’s interesting to see how many of these expectations things that exist already. One very obvious example is the DAB radio, as around 15% of cars in the UK already have this feature making it no so much the future of driving, but rather the present.

So, what do you think the future of driving will be?
